the FuTuRe!
Hello lovely planet people,
A short explanation for the future:
Since the 1st of July 2009 we (Galeria Schaap) do not have a physical space where people/projects/art/love/friendships comes together.... BUT .....
Nevertheless we still organize good stuff and creative projects outside Schaap, see for example the In La'kech festival '09 where we created a heart burning ritual spectacle with the crowd and Project Wilderman! ... in where many wishes came through ... This heart is still to feel/see/vonkel by the cafe Noorderlicht at the NDSM, it became a very special lantern and will grow till the flowers flourish. Also the big New Years Bang at de Sauna on the Kerkstraat we helped out to re-schaapesize the good old darkrooms to explore what's waiting for you this year.
Well people to get to a point....
We will still use this blog for upcoming events where we or people involved with Schaap are busy with.
The Museum of the Bohemian is another story...
This traveling Museum, founded in Schaap, is on the road since the 7th of nov. '09 and is traveling through the streets of Amsterdam looking for Bohemians in many ways and in different cultural spots. The communication about this museum goes through the new website www.museumofthebohemian.nl Everybody subscribed to the gallery schaap blog will be soon invited to subscribe to the museum blog. Please accept the invitation because else you'll be left out about "het reilen en zeilen" of the museum...
and that will be jammer when you happen to be in New York or Berlin or...

Museum of the Bohemian First Birthday News
Created with Admarket's flickrSLiDR Photos by Morten Årstad.
In the warm friendly atmosphere of Mezrab Art Cage, our 1st birthday unfolded over the course of the afternoon. Beginning with 1930’s 78’s on the gramophone, and then the premiere screening of the fantastic film from our last Bohemian verhuizing - masterfully filmed and edited by Josephine Beijer.
The Little Bohemians were the first to bake their own birthday cake.
At about 4 o’clock the first box of the day arrived and more continued to roll in throughout the night. A special thank you to all the new artists who put in their creative energy and became a part of the Museum. The new boxes are fantastic!
With the arrival of the first box...the performances started and our birthday became the celebration we dreamed of.
Julius Joker gave us his STORY OF STUFF. Followed by Jacob and Sahand with a light improvisation and from then on the night took its own form. With all sorts of performers playing for a full house of attentive listeners, who between performances fed themselves on yummy soup and made aquaintence with the newest bohemian boxes.
A big thank you to all our Bohemian Birthday performers:
Sahand Sahebdivani - Tar , Story Telling and more... Simon Hodges - poetry, Julius Joker – “story of stuff”, Morten Årstad - poems, Vilbjorg Broch - voice, Mamma Parwin - voice, the Ganean Prince drummer! Branko Galoec - Guitaar, Florencio Yllana - Slam Poetry, Jacob Plooij - Violin, Josephine Beijer – film... plus even more spectacular and spontaneous performers!
Stay tuned for our next Bohemian verhuizing on 30th January 2010...

Museum of the Bohemian at Park Art
Created with Admarket's flickrSLiDR.

A street and a parking garage full of arts and crafts, design, fashion, authentic food, drinks, performances, dj’s, books, accessories and surprises
20th of September
from 13:00h till 22:00h
Spuistraat 219 / Wijdesteeg
free entrance

ParkArt derives from the plans for an ArtMall in the Tabakspanden. These plans have been initiated and are now being further developed by Langgewagt (residents and users of Spuistraat 219). In collaboration with De Key and the Amsterdam Municipality, Langgewagt is investigating the possibility of developing the Tabakspanden as a future permanent place for arts and creativity. One of the ideas envisions a market like ParkArt occurring on a regular (perhaps weekly) basis.
This second time that this kind of creative market is happening in the parking garage is organised by Langgewagt. Last March's Artmarket was organised by Afarai.

Museum van de Bohemien moves to De Nieuwe Anita this Sunday!
Per 1 juli 2009 moeten wij hier nu ECHT stoppen in Schaap.. behhh

It is with sad news that we write to let you know we have to leave Galerie Schaap...our art galerie/workshop/project space and playground.
We have officially been occupying the space since December 2007 and have held many superb events including exhibitions, concerts, open mic nights, fashion shows, poetry readings, dj events, live theatre performance, film screenings and lots more. We would like to say a big THANK YOU to everyone who came to the events, enjoyed our magical world and supported us in many ways!
As the schaapies, we will continue to organise more inspiring events, such as the Museum of the Bohemian, at other locations instead.
During this week we will be moving our stuff and emptying out the space and on Saturday, 27th June we will have an open house for anyone who wants to come by and see what goodies are left that need to go to a new home... kitchen stuff..decor...en, en, en...
If you're passing by the Utrechsestraat, drop in anyway and say goodbye!
Beeeeeehhhhh..Beeeeeehhhhh....
The Schaapies!

Beste schapen.
BehBehBeh
Schaap wenst iedereen hun dromen toe.

Lekker Bezig By Luuk van Huët

‘Hi! I’m a new gallery located at Utrechtsestraat 95, but that wasn’t always the case. For forty years, a butcher named Cor Kolijn had a shop here. When he quit, I was left chewing the cud for about two years until four artists decided to turn me into a gallery. The counter that used to display a mouth-watering array of meat has found a new function as the Tentoonbankstelling, currently filled with a glass artwork made by Thomas Hillebrand. Shelves on the walls are filled with artworks from previous exhibitions, such as painted tiles and Sinterkunstletters, which can be bought by the gram. I don’t charge commission, so the proceeds all go to the artists themselves. The cooling cells have been turned into storage space, which is a marked improvement on having all those carcasses hanging around! I also have an essential kitchen area—even artists have to masticate sometimes—and behind that it is the courtyard where the old meat grinder stands, and the old rookworst smoking shack has been transformed into a watering hole for thirsty bohemians. Finally, the basement where once animals were sent to their final green pastures has been saved from flooding and at the moment it’s graced with an installation oozing calm underwater sounds. The artists who flock to me believe in sharing instead of shearing and caring instead of rearing. Everyone, from black to white sheep is welcome, and that includes ewe!’

Sigur Ross Film Screening

Come along for a gezellig evening at Galerie Schaap, for the screening of the film 'Heima' by famous Icleandic band, Sigur Ross. Only the second screening in Amsterdam, previously shown at Melkweg.
'Heima' is Sigur Rós's first ever film, filmed over two weeks last summer when the band undertook a series of free, unannounced concerts in Iceland. They hauled 40-plus people round 15 locations to the furthest flung corners of their homeland for their debut venture into live film, to create something, well, inspirational.
'Heima' (Icelandic for "at home" or "homeland"), truly, shows Sigur Rós as never before. whereas seeing the group live is normally a large-scale and sometimes overwhelming experience, making full use of lights and mesmeric visuals, 'Heima' was always intended to reveal more of what was actually going on on stage. It does this via long-held close-ups and a rare intimate proximity, without ever once breaking the spell.
